GUEST POST from Don: FAKE!

FAKE?  Of course it is…

Have you ever figured out when something is fake without being told?  Yup!  You already know that the “only 2 days” in that radio ad is fake.  Woe to you if you haven’t.  You already know that nothing is “free” EVER!  There is a cost.  Mainly you have to “sign up” which means they now have your name, address, phone number, and age…data they can sell.  (I haven’t answered a survey, signed up for  the Publishers Clearing House “prize,” or put my business card in a bowl for decades.  Free isn’t.)

What else have you figured out on your own without being told it was fake?  Following are things I figured out and then found them on “fake” lists AFTER I already knew…

1. Spiders.  You do NOT ingest spiders in your sleep.  Spiders are not that stupid.  They don’t crawl into an area with pre-digestive juices.  I knew that.  It turns out the fake “fact” was written as part of a spoof article to prove that people are gullible.
2. Fat targets.  One would have to be pre-science to believe that a diet pill could “target” only belly fat or only thigh fat.  Nope!  (Those pills actually target fat in the brain!)  Fat does not know where it is.  (It is true that each area may have some fat that is different, but not all.)  A diet pill that “reduces” fat all by itself would be amazing … if a pill could do that without caloric reduction and/or exercise (and without harming the person) it would be really special.  In fact, a pill that could do that would never cost only $19.95 for a 30 day supply, would it!  (Real medicine often costs over $600 per month without insurance.)  However, fat leaves the body in a very specific way.  It burns up its energy to power your body WHEN you expend more calories than you are taking in.
3. Vitamin O.  Oh, boy!  Most added vitamins are unnecessary and some can be dangerous.  There are people who need vitamins because they do not eat a balanced diet or they have a specific disease.  In a few cases you can improve your health with just one or two supplementals.  Yet most people need exactly ZERO supplements.  Example: Doctors gave a close relative Iron shots for over a decade.  She did not need extra iron, she needed doctors to find out she had a rare blood cancer (Waldenstrom’s)…which was robbing her body of energy.  If some doctor had worked “smarter” he/she would have tested her (Waldenstrom’s is a cancer which is observable with an ordinary microscope), treated it, and saved her life.  The extra iron did NOTHING!!  …  So, do you know what Vitamin O is?  Oxygen in pill form.  You don’t need it unless you are deep sea diving without an oxygen tank.  Otherwise just take an extra free breath every day.
4. Missing persons.  There is no requirement to wait 24 hours before reporting a missing person. You just need evidence they are missing and a good reason they should not be.  CALL as soon as you have proof or a good reason.
5. Bermuda Triangle.  (or anything called a “Jinx”)   The area is not any more mysterious than any other similar area off the Atlantic coast of the United States.  No person, area, or object is more jinxed than others.  Ships sink everywhere there is water.  Planes crash everywhere there is sky.  Stupid people are everywhere people live.  (Hopefully, smart people are also everywhere.)
6. Mattress tags.  All it takes is the ability to read and understand.  Manufacturers and stores are not permitted to remove those tags because they contain details which consumers may need to make good selections.  On the other hand, the owner of the object can remove them.
7. Detoxifying creams and treatments.  Biology tells me that my body was created to detox naturally.  It does it quite well and at no additional charge.  Do the creams or treatments work? Yes.  They detoxify your wallet.
8. 10% of your brain.  It took me a while to figure this one out because I WANTED to believe it.  However, if you actually only used 10% of your brain you would be an almost-functional sub-moron.  You CAN improve your brain function (somewhat) … why else have schools?  But to suppose that humans are smart enough that they could function without using 90% of their brain power is more than silly.
9. Caffeine dehydrates you.  Yes and no.  If you are taking caffeine pills you can become dehydrated.  However, if you are drinking tea or coffee…the liquid more than replenishes the liquid lost.  Since coffee tends to make your bladder fill faster it is wise to avoid that first cup before going on a long trip.  (I worked with more than one co-worker who started their day with a 16 oz version…and of course could hardly do any work because he was always searching for a bathroom.)
10. Censorship.  Removing objectionable books from school does not equal censorship.  Removing those same books from SOCIETY would be censorship.  If the books are STILL AVAILABLE but just not in the school library…that is sensible-ship.  Some books, without doubt, are inappropriate for children.  Other books are just inappropriate for everyone.  Those should be censored.
11. “Climate Change” causes most natural disasters.  Fake!  Natural disasters happened 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 years ago without “climate change.”  I have long suspected that not much BLAMED on “Climate Change” is truly caused by it.  The West (California) has droughts.  The North has snow.  The Gulf has hurricanes.  Always have.  Rivers rise when it rains.  Crops fail when there’s a late frost.  Call this one mostly FAKE and your sanity will be instantly restored.  It is like insisting that it’s always Shorty’s fault.  It is another Bermuda Triangle.  It is another “Jinx.”  Are a few things caused or made much worse by it?  Sure…why not.  HOWEVER, if we can blame “Climate Change” for every disaster, then logically we must credit it for every time it rains just when farmers need it, when it is a beautiful day on the beach, and when it snows on Christmas day.  I’ve been alive long enough to watch it snow mid-June in Pennsylvania and enjoy a New Years’ walk on a sunny 65 degree day.  Read about “A year without a summer” if you want clearer vision about how fragile our planet’s weather is.  One thing is obvious … Our planet will not change its behaviors as a result of the wealth-making scheme called “carbon offset credits.”

Readers Digest (7-27-21) reported a few more which we all should know are fake:

1. Dinosaurs and Humans lived at the same time?  Nope.  They never met.  They missed each other by over 60 million years.  (one day would have been sufficient).  However, woolly mammoths and humans DID co-exist for a while.
2. Bagpipes are from Scotland?  I am not a fan of the droning skirl (huknmmmmmmmmmm).  They originated in the Middle East.
3. SOS means “Save our ship?”  Actually, it doesn’t mean anything.  It is merely the fastest way to call for “help.”
4. Ninjas wore black?  No.  They also avoided white.  They wore whatever would make them inconspicuous.  They were masters of disguise.  Maybe they look like your neighbor.
