GUEST POST from Don: MEAT

MEAT

We just received an invoice via USPS.  On the back of the envelope was a seal, “Printed with 100% Certified Wind Power.”  What?  You can certify THAT?  Electricity, as I understand it, does not have a “gender.”  The electrons in that power line come from scores of providers and through scores of transfer stations.  The electrons automatically flow toward the point of “need.”  We learned that in science class.  Thus, the actual electrons in the transmission line used by that company which  printed the invoice may have come from coal, hydro, nuclear, and/or solar.  So, HOW can a business make the above claim?  The right was “sold” to them by the electric company.  It is like Carbon Offset Credits.  You obtain the right to over-produce atmospheric carbon by “buying” someone else’s carbon under-production.  (Nothing changed except who owns the money.)

It is as nutty as someone in Mississippi (the state) dipping a cup into the Mississippi (the river) and proclaiming “This water is from St. Louis.”  Couldn’t some of it have come from Wisconsin, Ohio, or even that half-day drizzle in Tennessee?

Carnivores eat meat.  You and I also learned this in high school science.  It is the very definition of “carnivore.”  Show me a lion on the savannas of Africa which stops into the local lab-grown “meat” store for lunch.  Show me the crocodile which turns up its nose to anything but soy burgers.  They aren’t looking for protein substitutes.  They have no interest in “Impossible“ Gazelle.  They know meat and they eat meat.

“Climate change” activists are pushing us to give up farm animal proteins.  I deem it senseless because the way we produce real meat is “amazingly” efficient.  A bovine in the wild is often disease ridden and lean.  It creates just as much greenhouse gas as a farm cow.  A wild boar is seldom converted into human consumption products, yet that animal contributes just as much to climate change as a farm pig.

Why can’t we do the “offset credit” thing with meat?  If we reduce the wild animal population then we can keep eating farm-produced meat?  Somehow we are forbidden to kill the wild animals to reduce greenhouse gas.  I believe that would upset those same environmentalists.  But they encourage us to eliminate a similar number of farm animals for zero benefit.

Consumption:
We have seen how the consumption thingy works for the little guy … he gets bullied into reducing his “carbon” output.  For example, when you are told to reduce your dependence on A/C, Al Gore is permitted to own ~ 75 (more or less) air-conditioned houses.  You are warned to cut back on carbon emissions but “environmentalists” fly to climate change seminars in high-polluting private jets.  Leaders continue to contribute abundant amounts of climate changing gases because they are “special” and “privileged,” while we ordinary folk have to give up a pick-up truck that we need because we build and haul things.  Try hauling a half ton of gravel for your driveway in that electric toy with the postage-stamp-sized trunk!

Jennifer Granholm’s staff parked a non-electric car (a large gasoline SUV, I believe) in a charging spot to save it for the Jenny due to shortage of stations in a Georgia town recently.  Privileged snot!  Leaders don’t play by the rules everyone else has to follow.  The family needing to charge their vehicle on that very hot day had a baby on board.  They called the cops when the staff people refused to budge.  Good for them!

So, if you and I stopped eating meat … you know the drill.  The leadership class would still have incredibly juicy and tender steak 4 times a week.  They’re not going to eat “Impossible” anything.  They’re only going to eat kale if there are cameras around.  They like meat and, doggone it, they’re going to eat it.  But YOU don’t deserve any.

Who is pushing this?
I noticed recently (2 yesterday) a slew of articles, pretending to be news, about landscape cloth.  You know, that fabric that reduces weeds in your flower beds…  Every article highlighted a “horror story” about this product and how ineffective and downright harmful it is to the soil.  My “fake story” spidey-sense was alerted.  Upon further research I discovered that almost every “news article” was coming from a SINGLE source, and that source was one particular “environmental” group.  They were pushing a false narrative to influence homeowners against landscape cloth.  My experience is that the fabric works exceedingly well for many years.  In fact, those in the know say that it can be 4 times more effective than any other solution for the cost and time.  NOT using it means we would be forced to triple the use of toxic weed killers near the plants we DO NOT want weed killer near.

So, who is pushing the “meat is bad” agenda?  Animal meat is the most efficient and least expensive method of providing useful proteins in human diet.  Real meat is also very tasty.  Our tongues were created to experience “savory,” you know!  Lab proteins are still in the infancy stage and not efficient.  The energy used to produce a pound of lab-grown “meat” is more than you can imagine.  The result is a more expensive source of proteins.  Secondly, the technology has not geared up enough to provide sufficient pounds of the products to support our national needs anyway.  So, why are THEY pushing something which cannot provide sufficient food for America?  I’m guessing it has little to do with climate change.

Cost:
Every change “recommended” in the last 2 years has had tons of added cost attached.  Get an electric vehicle…and with updated charging station, it costs $20k more, before you’ve driven a single mile.  It is supposed to “save” you money.  Even the claim that the EV helps the environment is sketchy.

Fake meat is expensive per gram of protein.  So is kale.  Even if it “tastes” like meat, it will be too expensive for the common man to afford.  Not better, more expensive.  Tell me exactly how many degrees of global warming we are talking about for this sacrifice????

Conclusion:
Not me!  When I consume bacon, roast, or fried chicken, which is not as often as I wish, I deserve farm-fresh real.
