“CREAM OF SOMETHING”
That’s what a 106 year old nursing home resident called her lunch.
When you’re 106 you should get a good lunch, don’t you think. Every meal should be presented as if it were her last. Nothing says, “You lived this long for nothing” like cream of something soup.

I happen to now know several wonderful people in their 80s and better. They deserve something tasty. Sure! Some of them no longer are able to chew steak, but that doesn’t mean they should not have tasty food. They are survivors. Heroes!!! Mystery soup for lunch? I think not.
If I’m in a nursing home and the caretaker of the day can’t pronounce my last name, I should at least have tasty food. I have never cared for oatmeal, cream of wheat, or grits. I’ve tried them all several times, but never found them palatable (I bet its the texture). Give me some over-medium eggs (properly seasoned), a small hunk of sausage, and some fried potatoes (seasoned and hot off the griddle, please). If you can’t feed me right, then just give me corn flakes and cold milk.
One of owly’s grandmothers (who I met and liked) enjoyed things were supposed to be hot to BE HOT. Soups and coffee had to be too hot to drink or they weren’t hot enough. Thank goodness she was taken care of by family when she drew near the end. Nothing says love like serving food that reminds one of better times.

America’s autism hotspots revealed as new data lays bare ‘rampant epidemic’

I was interested to read the article (link below). It aroused my curiosity. So, I thought, there are places where it is more common? Then, reading the article I found the graph which showed which states have the highest incidents. … (I’ll wait while you check it out) …
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-14619253/america-autism-hotspots-data-rampant-epidemic.html
Did you see it? It is a bar graph of highest incidents. Which state had the highest likelihood of a diagnosis of autism? Was it California or Texas?
USUALLY a bar graph shows MORE as a longer line, but this one does the exact opposite. California, with the shortest line actually has MORE diagnoses of autism per 10,000 people. THAT’s the hottest state for autism. Poor chart making decision here. (Was it meant to confuse or merely a poor charting decision?)
Cream of something story.

Then there’s THIS:
Six Unexpected Reasons Your Utility Bills Are Huge
There might be a weird reason behind your skyrocketing monthly bills.
Jeff Somers – April 10, 2025
OK, he has a small point here. Very small. The truth is that gas and electric providers have raised prices and there is little to be done about that. Mr. Somers lists 6 “unexpected, but not entirely unlikely, causes for a higher bill.” Let me be very clear about this list, you might be able to save a few pennies per year by checking on these.
First, he says, you may have older appliances and they all lose efficiency with time. How much? Up to 11% for a refrigerator, which is the same amount of energy used gaming on your computer for 3 hours. A gas stove loses almost no efficiency over time and lasts 2 years longer than electric versions (which do lose efficiency).
His second reason is (and why would this change your utility bill at all?) you have vaulted ceilings. Of course, check to see whether you have blocked a heat duct with your furniture, because that can happen. People forget about heat ducts.
Third, your water heater may be set too high. However, I warn you … make sure you do not set it below 120 degrees. Those microorganisms love that.
He says, fourth, defective wiring. Ummm! Unless you are willing to pay thousands to replace wiring (some should) forget this.
Fifth, freeloaders. OK, you’re too busy to notice that someone has an electric cord stretched to one of your outside outlets. Three minutes will solve this question.
Finally, lots of crypto farmers nearby means that electric prices will be inflated. You can’t do a thing about this either. Even if you could shut them down the price of electricity won’t be going down … never does.
In the end, his advice isn’t very helpful. There isn’t much here you can use to lower your bills.
– Turn down your water heater to 120 if you haven’t.
– Next stove purchase … make it gas (cheaper to cook food on and holds up longer).
– Move your furniture away from ducts.
You may save $3 this year.
That’s another “cream of something” article.
