VIDEO: Our First Garden – April 4, 2023: Baby Steps

Our helpers (a young couple who come here once – or more, if needed – every week to help us with stuff we can no longer manage on our own) are great gardeners. In fact, gardening is E’s passion. And listening to her talk about it, her enthusiasm has been contagious. So she agreed to help us start a garden of our own this year! Last year they brought us some future beds on stands, and we’ve been building some compost over the winter. Now we’ve also gotten a bag of dirt, so we’re well on our way!

I know nothing – NOTHING! – about gardening or growing things. I’ve had a few plants during my life but they all died prematurely for some reason. Yet I am hopeful, it won’t be just me doing it and maybe Pete has a green thumb. It will be fun, I think, to do together!

In this video is E teaching me how to get some chives started. It is so cool! (It was recorded 2 days ago and I STILL don’t have any chives…but she assures me they will come LOL!)

    1. WOW, I can’t wait to have zucchini. E told me that the thaw or freeze or something is the end of May, when we can plant. I hope it doesn’t take longer than a week or so for everything to come up hahaha! How early could you plant your garden and your zucchini there?
