Well I’ve made a couple of changes to my social lineup so I thought I’d share them with you; it’s been a while since I made a Saturday Social post anyway.
The biggest change I’ve made is that I’ve left Gab.com. If you’ve been reading here a while you know that I absolutely have loved that platform, I have written about it many times, and have defended it against those who are opposed to its free speech ideals.
I still love the platform and how I had managed my settings so it was exactly what I wanted it to be; I absolutely miss the many friends I’ve made there; I absolutely believe in Constitutional free (legal) speech as well. What I hate is AI. I hate that it is sucking up my words and my images, to be used for its own purposes. I hate that it started out there on its own, separate gab site, and we were told that was how it was going to be. I hate that we were lied to, that suddenly it had crossed the line and now was real people and real conversations were becoming artificial, with something that truly has no interest in others, no heart for anyway, no spiritual essence as human creation does. I hate that Andrew’s pet project, his favorite toy, was now swallowing up what I considered the best social platform I had ever been on.
There is a thing on social media. The owner(s) make changes, a bunch of users have tantrums and threaten to leave (but rarely do), while most users just go with the flow, right or wrong because it’s easiest. I am not interested in any kind of AI platform, or “friendships” with soul-less, unfeeling, uncaring blobs of code. So I simply left. It has left a big hole in my online social interactions of course, for the people I interacted with every day for the most part. And naturally the same thing as when I left Facebook: you simply lose touch.
I am still on Mastodon and still enjoying that; Mastodon, along with gab, were my 2 top places to seek out online human interaction. So I’m thankful for those I enjoy there. I use Pinterest a lot but not the same in any way, just something to look at and learn from.
I have checked into a couple of platforms which I had enjoyed in the past but they are totally not what they were – or useful to who I now am. So other than Mastodon I have a few sites that I enjoy perusing without interacting with other members, and am finding that having just one interactive site is plenty for me these days, though I may do some looking around at other parts of the fediverse at some point as well.
