Music Monday hasn’t been a “thing” for a while so I thought it was time. And I’ve been writing about (on this blog) and talking about (on Sherry Shares videos) how I am going through my new hymnal – Rejoice Hymnal – to hear all of the songs, then marking those that I really loved, and want to go back and polish up. So today, before I finished the book, I wanted to show you what that process looks like. That’s what the video below is about. Sight-reading through the book means playing each song through quickly, just to hear what it is, not worrying about all the notes and chords and timing being perfect; just getting an idea. Of course I already know many of the songs, and I could sit in a comfy chair and read the notes to “hear” the songs and certain unfamiliar arrangements in my head…but that’s no fun, is it! So here’s a few minutes of what that looked like for the last few weeks!
I enjoyed listening to and watching you play through these selections, while I was eating a ‘late-night-snack’. I recognized a couple, but not very many. It sounded as if they were all pitched in the same key…? Anyway…I thoroughly enjoyed the ‘concert’ while I was ‘indulging’ in one of my favorite pastimes. (smile)
Thanks, Annette! Yes this hymnal (and the one I just ordered) contain quite a few with which I’m not familiar either, which is so cool! Another great feature is that the songs are grouped by topic – as are most hymnals – and so that the music can flow from one to the next, being in the same key, or using a secondary dominant as a bridge, or offering some other bridge between compatible keys! It is truly a fascinating and enjoyable book on so many levels! Ooooh, late-night snacks are the best!
