Monday Musing – Feeling Guilty for Resting?

This subject came up in a group to which I belong, and the Lord gave me a message about it which I’d also like to share here.

One of the many lies that permeate this world is that God was wrong when He commanded us to rest, and that we only have value when we are producing so being at rest makes us worthless. We only “count” if we are doing. When you know that it is a lie of the devil intended to undercut God’s plan for us, we can use our spiritual weapons to fight it. We should not have guilt for obeying God! (I have fought this for years also and only recently have approached it from a spiritual perspective and gained the understanding that allows true rest.) I have learned that rest isn’t about lack of activity – it is about spending time with God, in His Word, at His feet, in worship and adoration and prayer. Is it any wonder that the enemy wants to keep us from it?

The 4th of the 10 commandments: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.”
