I always thought “Chatty Cathy” was a fable or myth. Now I see my misapprehensional thinking. Of course, I grew up in the foothills of Appalachia where many of these things did not exist. We even heated our homes with COAL (we would have it delivered by truck and they would load our “coal cellar” via a chute). The most “high tech” of our toys were metal tops which magically spun when you lifted then pushed down on the wooden handle.
Gwen and I had a Chatty Cathy growing up – a real one, looked just like that picture :). I used to love the metal spinning tops, and the lincoln logs that were my dad’s when he was a kid… We had oil delivered into a big tank in our basement instead of coal… And yet, with the modern “conveniences”, the memories are of GOOD times, not deprivation!
