Joyful Josie – Nov 6, 2026 Edition

JOYFUL – adjective
feeling, expressing, or causing great pleasure and happiness

The definition above sure does describe our little Josie! From the day she came home she has brought pleasure and happiness to everyone who meets her, and especially to those of us who live with her.

Short backstory: A few weeks after we lost our Chuy in June I was ready to get another small dog, but Pete wasn’t. During the following months I kept up online with dogs needing homes, but didn’t say anything to Pete until October, when I showed him a few of the photos, prefaced with “I know we’re not ready for another dog yet, but if we were…” statements. It was only a couple of weeks when he started saying things like, “We can go look at that one if you want to?” So when I saw Josie late at night on a Saturday, and couldn’t get her out of my mind the next day, Pete said, “If she’s the one you want, let’s go!” And within minutes I had contacted her owner and we were on the way. We were able to meet Josie’s chihuahua mom and her pomeranian dad while we were there, spent quite a bit of time talking with her first owner, then we brought her home!

We got her on October 25. She was born on May 29, 2026, so still a young pup. But her former owner had done a great job of things like socialization – with people, even children, and other animals – and house/paper training. It really shows what a wonderful start she had in how quickly she learns things, how she responds to praise, and how much she loves to please. It has been less than 2 weeks but she knew her new name the first night, and now she’s getting pretty good and sit, stay, come, and other words like “back” “move” “peepee” and of course “good girl!”

Josie always has a smile on her face and is the happiest dog I’ve ever met. Yet, even though she’s only about 7 lbs, she will put the bigger dogs in their place if they encroach her space when she has a toy or something to eat. She is an absolute delight in every way!

When she first got here she attached strongly to Bojack, a pibble who has been staying with us; then today, for the first time, she started initiating play and also cuddling with Maisie! So you will see more photos of her with Bojack, and then the video from this morning with Maisie.

Now here are some pictures from her first 12 days with us, and a couple of videos.
