Conversely, any nation whose God is not the Lord, cannot expect the blessings He bestows upon His own. As this nation was founded by Christian men on Christian principles and for Christian purposes, I celebrate today the country in which God has placed me where I can practice my Christian faith and live my Christian life. Only He can preserve that against any enemies of the cross. And it is my prayer that we turn back to Him, that He may do just that and that we can be blessed by Him.
Having a nation of freedom was worth every sacrifice to these men and their families.
And even this nation of freedom will someday be gone in the blink of an eye. This world will pass away and anything in the world for which men fought and died will have no value, no worth, no meaning.
When that day comes the only thing that matters is what we each have done for the Kingdom of Christ, in obedience to His will. We must be willing to sacrifice even more than those who lost everything for an earthly country.
As we celebrate our freedoms and independence from tyranny in the temporal world, also celebrate our true freedom, that will last through all of time: “I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts” celebrates the psalmist. And so do we!
