SOLUTION FOUND

I know, I know!!!  Enough already!

Well, it would be enough already IF the press and global warming scientists were to stop making expensive demands on us.  BUT, they haven’t.  They won’t.  They are making big bucks off Fear; why should they stop?  “Let me be very clear” – – Whether you believe in Global Warming or not, THEY are going to make you pay for it.  So it doesn’t matter if you think it is fake or not.  And in 4 years we could have a new government all in favor of it again.

So, we have to take away their incentives, meaning we have to make their programs and plans unprofitable politically and financially.  

How do we take away incentives?  By actually SOLVING the stated problem; something I believe WE have the power to do.

We WILL reduce man-made global greenhouse emissions by 50% by doing ONE THING even if nothing else is done.  And it is within OUR power.

Before we get to that, wouldn’t it be great if we did not have to give up our gas cars, motorcycles, and our recreational vehicles?  Wouldn’t it be financially beneficial if we did not have to upgrade our HVAC systems or install solar panels?  What if we could live economical lives paying almost nothing for electricity and natural gas?  Sounds wonderful compared to spending 50% more for HVAC which is only slightly more efficient.  

What if we COULD visit ancient ruins in Central America and not feel guilty?  What if we COULD fly to Utah just to visit with a grandchild for a weekend and not feel anxious about the cost to the planet?  Those pushing us are pushing “guilt” on our shoulders.

What if NOTHING like that had to change.  What if it were so simple even a caveman could do it?  It is.  It can be done and it would only take 40-50 years.

“WHAT already!” you say with exasperation.

Birth Control.

Fewer people = less man-made greenhouse gas.  So effective, and so incredibly simple.  If we reduced global birth rates to 1.25 offspring for every 2 adults we will reach our goal in 40 to 50 years with no other changes.  Studies estimate population growth in 2025 will add in excess of 73 million.  What if we decreased population instead?  What if birth rates did not exceed deaths?

A generation is roughly 20 years.  Typical global offspring productions is at a rate exceeding 2.5 children for every 2 adults.  As a result global population is growing around 1% per year.  But if the reproductive rate were reduced it would take a mere 15 years to move from growth to level and another 15 to enter decline.  Decline would not eliminate humans.  That would take nearly a millenia.  We have excess humanity.  In truth we could reduce humans down to a total of two 20 year olds (one male and one female) and rebuild if we wanted.  But that would be overkill, I think.

This SOLUTION has several benefits over all the other stupid stuff (like EV) being promoted.  The major benefit is that it costs almost nothing.  A new EV costs $14,000 more than a similar gas car.  For $14,000 a young couple in the USA could pay for 10+ years of birth control.  The car probably won’t last that long.  Financially a winner.  In India (and everywhere else) birth control costs far less than what we pay, so they could afford 17-20 years of control in place of buying an EV.  Other methods cost even less.

We also would have lower taxes because fewer new roads and bridges would be needed.  Fewer miles of new electrical service, fewer houses built, smaller stores (located closer to home), etc.  School districts would not need newer, bigger school buildings.  The list of advantages is long.

I have often illustrated the problem with a cruise ship.  The ship has thousands of nail holes in the hull and is sinking.  Clearly, there are several things which can be done.  The passengers could build a lifeboat and survive.  The passengers could volunteer to seal some of the holes or organize a bailing program.  The ship could be lightened.  

None of the workable options involve taking on MORE PASSENGERS and more freight!  Yet, that is what the earth is doing.  We are investing in wind, solar, electric, improving efficiency … and making all of that hard work worthless because we are adding 73 million additional people every year.  It is the least logical way to solve the “PROBLEM.”  We are going to have everyone buy an EV this year while adding millions of additional people?  Each additional person is potentially creating tons of greenhouse gas every year.  It takes an extra acre of trees for every added person just to balance the problems caused.  That doesn’t solve the problem; it merely stabilizes it.  So, did YOU plant an acre of trees?  Neither did I.

Having everyone buy an EV solves absolutely nothing.  In fact, it barely moves the needle.  Insisting on all-electric houses – the same.  Those things could be meaningful if we stopped adding passengers.  But as it is, they aren’t.  What I mean is, what does it matter if the ship sinks while 1,000 miles from land or merely 995 miles?  You are going to die either way.  You get an extra day or two and the whole time you KNOW you are going to die really soon.  Is that a life worth living?  One would HOPE that we could solve the problem with tech and taxes.  But as long as we are adding passengers we have no hope.

No hope of winning this battle.  No hope of stopping global warming.  No hope of a better life for your children.  NO HOPE AT ALL.  That’s the reality with which we are faced according to the press and warming scientists.  Government can’t help us.  Neither climate scientists nor technology can save us.  

Whether Global Warming is actually happening or not, if we reduce world population we take away the incentive of those who insist it is happening.  We end the game.  We return sanity to the world and in the process create a different problem.  (See part II next Thursday:  “Planning for Shrink.”)
