We’re BROKE! Or, The Events of Our Day – June 14, 2023

Yeah, that’s click-bait. Sorry I stooped so low. But we DID spend a ton today, and insured that we can’t spend any extra pennies the rest of the month…does that count?

I had an appointment in Alma today, my first appointment with a new clinic. And it wasn’t too far out of the way to go through Clare so that I could order my new glasses, so we left early and did just that. Insurance doesn’t cover my glasses, but since it’s been 15 years since I got new ones I figured I could spend a little more on some of the features I wouldn’t otherwise get. Pretty pricey! But we weren’t broke yet…

We went to my appointment in Alma, and then, since it was only about 15 miles to Mount Pleasant, we figured we’d go there for some information. We’ve been planning to get new phones AND a new phone service for months. But though we knew what we were looking for (I research everything to death for every big decision!) we figured we’d put it off until next month so we wouldn’t squeeze the June budget too tightly, or have to dip into savings. So we went there just for information…

A while later we came out with 3 new phones, a shiny new plan, AND a new home internet service! We have dropped calls continually, as any of you who have talked to me can attest…and our internet is very – V E R Y – slow…when it even works. So yeah…we were there, they had deals, we got goodies…and we had planned to do it anyway, so…

My stepson, meanwhile, who is also on our plan to save him money, has been having problems with his phone. Because he is housebound it is his lifeline. So once we bought him a new phone, we drove down to Saginaw – about 75 minutes from Mt. Pleasant – to deliver it to him. By this time we’d been out for about 6 hours, were far from home, and were getting HANGRY…so we had to buy something to eat on the way too! After the hour-long drive home, we said we weren’t leaving the house again all month or spending another penny hahaha!

It was a very long day, and a very expensive one, but you know what? Things that have needed to be done – my glasses, changing our phone and internet services (cellular is our only option where we live, this new company has the best – not great, but the best we can get – of the big 3), getting Pete’s son set up with a reliable phone…ALL GOT DONE! No longer hanging over our heads. And worth every penny.

  1. I think, too, that I ordered the T-shirts and paid for the 410th Security Police Reunion coming up next month.
We still have the ham radio swap meet in Midland on Saturday. And, extra travel to get Leelan to come with.
Then next Saturday is the training day in Houghton Lake. No wonder I am fatigued/weak according to the ER Doctor. Yeah, I thought I had a stroke. Praising God I didn’t.

What’s with these ham swap meets. They come when we least can afford to get some parts I need. There were other expenditures besides what’s mentioned. I am glad my Son got a working phone. His medical condition and spiritual condition breaks my heart.

    1. HAHAHA well you won’t be able to buy a bunch of stuff but you’ll be able to meet up with your hamsters, and enjoy another reunion with your SP friends! That’s definitely worth the price of a few restaurant meals or thrift store visits or other extras that we will do fine without! And look what else we’ve got – NEW, ZIPPY INTERNET that we have needed ever since we moved here! PLUS your wife may be able to see well enough to actually stay on the road when she drives…Yeah, I’d say it is ALL money well-spent, and remember: we aren’t REALLY broke! It was just a click bait ?
