DISCERNMENT
Discernment is essential to every Christian. Without it we cannot seek, find, or follow God’s will for us, or judge with righteous judgment, be obedient to many of the other commands we’re given, or live a life that is pleasing to God. To be honest, this is a big topic…nay, a BIG TOPIC. None of these Sunday posts are intended to be a complete treatise on their topic of course, just a jumping off point for the reader to run with. And this one perhaps more than most.
This will be very general. At its most basic, discernment is
- Acuteness of judgment or understanding
- Judgment, perspicacity, penetration, insight
SPIRITUAL Discernment is
- the action or leading of Holy Spirit to provide insight. Spiritual discernment involves
both the supernatural gift and developed skill. - Spiritual “judgment”
