June 10,2024 – Took another stroll around the yard, checking out the plants and changes since all the rain we had over the weekend.

June 7, 2024 – I took a meander through Myrtle’s garden today…

It’s been just over a week since I last shared photos of the garden…so I think it’s about time! These are from just a couple of hours ago :).

May 22, 2024 – I won’t be sharing garden pictures EVERY day…I don’t think 😉…but I was surprised at the changes just from yesterday so I took a few more photos to share…

May 21, 2024 – We had nasty storms last night with heavy rain and high winds that bent the trees that surround Myrtle. It was dark so I couldn’t see outside but I was anxious about my little baby plants that we worked so hard on yesterday! This morning when I got up one of the first things I did was go out and check on them – and of course I took photos to share here:

May 20, 2024 – A BUSY day in Myrtle’s garden! “We” (Jared and Emma and I but they did most of the work!) planted and potted and arranged for a couple of hours this afternoon, and I’m SO EXCITED about the results! When I first went out the door I scanned around the yard; then I went around and took individual photos of everything – what we’ve done previously, and what was done today. Enjoy!

The photos below aren’t in any particular order; there may be duplicates and there may be some less-than-stellar shots. There are pots where the seeds haven’t poked through the soil yet. I’m sharing them all with you. (Open the view in another page by clicking the little square-within-a-square to the upper right of the photo and they will look better as you scroll through them.) Enjoy!

May 18, 2024 – Let’s check in on what’s new in Myrtle’s garden, shall we?

J&E and I went to Elm Creek over in Farwell (MI) so that I could pick up some more vegetable plants (got mostly herbs) and a ton of flowers! I got annuals since I know I will likely change my mind about what I want to grow next year anyway. I also picked up some purple long bean seeds. I brought them home, and we’ll get them repotted/planted hopefully on Monday when J&E are here. I tried to choose a lot of flowers and plants that mosquitoes don’t like. (BTW you can click on the photos to see them open up as their larger selves!) All of the plants you see in the wagon are the ones we bought that day; and there are updates to what I shared on the 6th.

Beautiful green and deep red lettuces!
I love that new leaf growing so tall out of the middle…reminds me a ballerina’s graceful arm
My kale, back from last year, is so tall! And the thyme (lower right) is from last year too!
A messy line of radishes springing up both above and below last year’s chives which are growing very nicely again. Along the left and right sides of the bed are some Napa cabbage (LOVE that stuff!), and I’d like to put more herbs in this one also.
This is a pot of dirt into which I just sowed a handful of seeds and grains from the PoiBoiz’ food mix. Starting to see some growth!
In the top bed is something growing out of the bird seed that got put into the bed over winter somehow. Emma said it looks like a type of brassica to her; it will be interesting to see what comes of it!
My tidy little vegetable beds in Myrtle’s newly fenced (sorry, deer!) yard, with my wagonload of new plants waiting to be moved to their new homes next week!

May 6, 2024 – PLANTING DAY! Though there is still more to come, with J&E’s help we got some flower and vegetable seeds planted and/or started – it was a great, fun time too, I’d been looking forward to it all winter!

No idea what this is…it’s pretty hard though!
A closer view
Not a very clear photo but what a COOL looking whatever-it-is! The little seed being held with the interesting shape beneath; the whole thing is only about an inch tall; there are several out there.

And Myrtle’s tulips have been becoming even more beautiful over the week too!

(The flowers on the sides are fake and will be replaced by real ones.)

April 30, 2024 – Myrtle got her first flower of the year today! One of the tulip bulbs we planted last fall burst into a real bloom!

We (well, Emma) did some rearranging here. The big ottoman that used to be opposite Pete’s recliner is now next to the birds, having swapped places with my sewing machine. And then we (well, Emma) had to swap the PoiBoiz’ places too. Because Elliot, who used to be on the left, HATES Maisie, who likes to sleep on that ottoman. So now Maxwell will be next to the ottoman and Elliot will be next to the coffee station. They are still adjusting, but will be fine with their new spots. Eventually. Parrots, as a rule, don’t like changes… BUT this was necessary because Pete will be having a knee replacement surgery soon, and he needs the space for getting in and out of his chair, with his walker. And so it goes…
