NOT SO LUCKY

There are some things which make me laugh, others which scare me.  NO KINGS does both.

Recently we found three things about NO KINGS movement that have been hidden from us.

1. It is funded by anarchist millionaires.  George Soros being one.  He has participated in disruptive activities in several countries, at least one of which broke a country’s economic system.  It is not a social movement, it is a planned program by people we wouldn’t like (because they are KINGS).

2. It has received favorable reporting and treatment.  We are told it is “peaceful.”  There is one reason for that which has not been reported.  When conservative groups rally or march, or even gather for prayer, there are usually counter-protesters there.  Many times the counter-protesters are disruptive and/or combative.  However, there have been few counter-protesters at the NO KINGS marches.  They are left alone to “do their thing.”  Pleasantly, they have chosen to do it peacefully.

3. The very fact that their efforts were not squashed, no curfews issued, their homes were not raided, and the marchers were not bloodied by police or armed forces PROVES them wrong.  If there was a KING, a “Hitler,” or a fascist in our highest office CLEARLY they would have been risking everything to protest.  They had 100% freedom.  You rarely see that in Russia, Iran, China or in half-a-dozen other regimes.  

In America, you have the right of free speech even when you 100% wrong.  I celebrate that!  But I’m not fooled by it.  The NO KINGS movement has nothing of value for us.  It can solve nothing.  Ignore them and let’s move up and forward.  I’m not a Trumper, and never have been.  I don’t think he is god.  He also isn’t the enemy.  I, unlike some, have no desire to shake his hand.  However, I like a few things he has done: One doesn’t have to be for him to understand that reducing the bloat and waste of government is a good thing, even if it is done too zealously.

I don’t see my position as “political.”  It is logical and sensible.  Not one president or party has pleased me.  We need them, but we should not ever be fooled into believing they have OUR best interests at heart.  We all should realize that there is no perfect government, nor will there be any government which we should imagine to be our “friend.”  It is more like a necessary evil and rarely makes good common sense.  Take the US Postal Service, as an example.  Necessary, but stupid.  (Someone sent a large USPS first-class envelope to me from mid-Michigan and it arrived at my mid-Kentucky home 20 days later.  That’s like transporting the mail at riding mower speed!  They never explain their ineptness.)

Where do I agree with the NO KINGS movement?  Easy.  Presidents and governors should not have so much latitude on executive orders.  I thought this was true when Obama was KING, when Trump I was KING, and when Biden was KING.  In fact my observations go back nearly half a century of KINGS.  In Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky the KING governors have also made many sketchy executive orders during the same time period.  It should not be.  ALL of them should have been reined in 50 years ago.  But there is a problem that occurs when executive orders are eliminated:  Congress moves at a snail pace and even when everyone WANTS something done it will take 4-12 months.  The executive can get it done in 3 days.  Drop bombs?  Why wait 4 months when now is far better?  Stop an execution tomorrow?  Four months is too late.  Weather emergency in North Carolina, even with poor executive planning it still didn’t take 6 months to get some help to the area.  If Congress had a way to streamline urgent decisions we might not need 500 executive orders.

Actually, if Trump tomorrow made an executive order that no more executive orders could be signed by himself or any future president, even his opponents would fight him in court.  If he guaranteed that he would sign such a bill if Congress would put such on his desk, the Democrats would fight against it.  In effect, neither party wants such a change.  I’d love to see it happen, not only on the federal level, but also on state levels.  

So, what is NO KINGS marching for?  Something no one really wants.

DIGITAL FOOL’s GOLD

Men have been murdered over fool’s gold.  Now, it is worse than that.  Fake images, fake stories, all possible with the help of AI.  I don’t trust.  A large group of high school students were shown a grainy picture of someone dumping ballots into a ballot box.  The headline said, “Voter Fraud.”  All but 3 students were fooled into believing it was proof of fraud in the United States.  However, the picture was from Russia.  The headline was merely stamped in red block letters below the picture.  It had been proven to be from Russia from a decade before.

When the students were confronted with the evidence of fakery, several still believed it was about fraud in US elections.  Put it on the internet and “its true!”  Not so fast, Daffy!

“WE SHOULD DO THINGS LIKE FRANCE!”

I don’t think so!  France is about the size of Texas.  Somewhere that small can do things that wouldn’t work for a large country like China, India, or the United States of America.  Plus, they have made some big mistakes!  Their universal health care system is extremely slow to deliver cancer treatments and schedule heart surgeries.   If you are 30 and healthy it is a great system, but if you have a major illness or you’re over 60 it is not so great.

For instance, in the late 1950s and early 1960s there was a new drug available in Europe that reduced anxiety and morning sickness symptoms.  In the USA it was only available as a doctor office sample, but in France it was fully available as a prescription.  It is estimated that 10,000 to 12,000 babies in France and other European countries were born with major thalidomide deformations (often without arms or legs), but there were very few cases in the United States (a people mass far outdistancing that of Europe)  because OUR FDA medical officer was not convinced that enough study on the drug had been done.  She asked for more studies which delayed its approval here, and in the meantime Europe was experiencing horrible results.  I’m glad we didn’t follow France on that one.
