CALLING IT on this STORY
Popular Science has this headline: “Ancient humans didn’t need braces. So why do we?”
Their short answer is basically that ancient humans had to chew fibrous foods and it strengthened (and expanded) the jaw bone, giving teeth room to grow properly into place.
I know someone who has always ground his teeth in his sleep … and his teeth needed braces. The jaw bone was not strengthened and expanded. Rather, a bony ridge grew in the mouth BEHIND the teeth.
If my friend had chewed fibrous foods instead of grinding his teeth, what would have happened? The very same thing! He would have developed a bony second ridge, not a bigger jaw bone.
By the way I saw no dentist or other dental professional quoted in the article. They also forgot to quote any study comparing need for braces between roughage eaters and pancake eaters!
I call this story 99.999% fake.
I only bother to look at TicTic (I don’t even know how to spell it) when there’s a major FAIL. Then, in my inner voice, I ask, “How could people be so stupid?” So, when I heard about a recent hack I asked the same question. On the app, site, or mongoose station (I’m not even sure what to call it) someone suggested freezing raw eggs in the shell and then sawing the frozen eggs into slices to cook.
DON’T DO THIS! First, it is a stupid thing because it is TokTalk. Second, it is totally unsanitary; the outside of the shell is a toxic waste zone which never should come in contact with what’s inside the egg. Third, slicing the shell and egg together kinda does cross-contaminate. “Your family really will appreciate the car rides to the ER. They will praise your name and grant you Queen status. I guarantee it” (sarcasm is hard to communicate in print).
Instead of following noobs on TickleTank, why not open an actual cookbook. Those recipes are tried, true, safe, and delicious. Suggestion is 99.999 (and 1000/1000ths) fake.
I often enjoy reading articles in Southern Living, but this one irks me: “How To Keep Spiders Out Of Your Home For Good, According To Experts.”
I spent 30 years of my life controlling spiders and insects in two different states. I went to scores of seminars on insect and spider control. Don’t tell, but I even read books on the subjects. NEVER was there even a suggestion that spiders could be permanently eliminated from anyone’s home. It can’t be done and professionally I would never guarantee it.
First you have to understand HOW spiders find their way to your home. Well, they can walk right in. Any crack or crevice, from foundation to roof vents can be an entry-point. If they don’t walk in they can “fly” in. Sure, spiders don’t have wings, but I’ve observed young spiders floating on the breeze with a line of spider silk above them. It creates a slight electrical charge which holds them in the air for long times and great distances (sometimes miles). If an adult can’t enter, these babies sure can. They are tiny. I haven’t mentioned, but should, that they also hitch rides on pets. I had a boxy black wolf spider on my pants once hitching a ride inside.
My point: It is utterly impossible to eliminate all spider entry into a house that is not hermetically sealed.
Second, you have to understand WHY they are in your house. You provide warmth and protection. Your home also has lots of food for spiders. You can reduce the food resources by lowering the humidity inside, trimming back bushes, and treating for insects at your foundation and baseboards. You aren’t spraying for spiders, but to kill the insects they enjoy eating. Even that won’t eliminate every spider entry.
The title is not only misleading, it is impossible to accomplish. 100% fake.
On the other hand, things that work great and as advertised. Nanodropper is an expensive replacement delivery nozzle for your specialty eye drop container (about $24).
The problem with most eye droppers is that the drop doesn’t fall exactly where you think it will AND the drop is far larger than you need if it were to go to the correct location. With the cost of eye medicines it is helpful to both reduce the size of the drop AND increase the accuracy. Fewer missed treatments, fewer incidents of wasted medicine.
So, would you like to extend the number of “treatments” from the same bottle? Most folk would. And would you like a more accurate delivery? Most folk would.
I asked the internet (avoiding AI as best as possible) for an improvement on the eyedropper and this product came up. I read the reviews and found that it basically does what it claims to do.
Success! A better eyedropper (at a price).
Here’s the revelation: I have no need for it. I was just curiously looking about. Haven’t you ever gone into a store knowing you wouldn’t buy anything?
The Guardian has this opinion by Zoe Williams: “Let’s stop going into space. There’s nothing to see and no one to talk to.”
She’s mostly wrong. There’s lots to see (not based on cubic yards) and we still don’t know about the “no one to talk to” part. Her problem is that it wastes resources, including money. Let me say for the record that I have the same problem with make-up. It isn’t nearly as flattering as supposed by those who wear it. I’m not impressed by long luxurious lashes. Great for movie characters, I suppose, but I really prefer REAL. Have you seen those actors and actresses without make-up? UUUUGGGLLY! If it weren’t for GL-P1, cosmetic surgery, professional dentistry, and seaweed diets they would look the same as your neighbor on food stamps. We waste money and resources for ILLUSION, why not a little for EXPLORATION. We are deluded into believing the illusion, but we have no imagination for the wonder of exploration. Sad!
