This is pretty much the base for the dogs’ food, although sometimes I add different grains, or even pasta, instead of rice; sometimes I use different organ meats, especially beef heart; and of course the vegetables vary as well. (I usually sprout some peas and pumpkin seeds to grind up and add but didn’t do that this time.) Every other time I add flax meal. In addition, when we’re eating dog-friendly foods ourselves, we add some of that to their dish. They also get yogurt and pumpkin on top; when I don’t have squash they get a little more pumpkin. Sometimes I do half the amount of red meat and the other half fish and eggs (pulverized with the shells). Since Chuy can’t have poultry, I do make chicken breasts for Maisie a couple of times a month to add to her dish for a few days…so yeah. It can vary. A lot.

This made a huge pot of food for the dogs. We will feed half of it for the next 4-5 days and freeze the other half until we need it. And if something better comes along (ie, I make a carnivore breakfast bowl or a duck or whatever) they eat that and it helps these big pots of food last longer too.
If you also feed your dog unprocessed food too and have any suggestions, I would love to add more things – not because THEY seem to care, but because it would make ME feel good about it :).
Looks wonderful! Do you add pureed apple slices or a few blueberries? Mine love spaghetti squash I cook, and only one can handle rice or potatoes, the other one has allergies and so many intolerances she is limited on what she can eat.
Actually YES I do blueberries all the time, and forgot to mention that! We don’t eat apples here so I never think of those….but yes they do get a lot of blueberries :). And they do love all kinds of squash too, right now I have three 2# bags of the diced butternut that I got from the Amish store so that’s the kind of squash they’re eating. I also put zucchini in it…and probably other stuff I’m forgetting hahaha!
