DOOM CUSTOMERS + (Page 2…)
Sorry! I have quite a collection of tidbits which are taking up room on my desk. Let’s deal with some.
WHAT IS THE RESULT OF POLITICALLY FORCED INCREASED WAGES?
“Minimum Wages and Workplace Injuries”
by Michael Davies, R. Jisung Park, and Anna Stansbury found in Planet Money.
These researchers studied California wages from 2000 to 2019 and concluded…
“We find that a 10% increase in the minimum wage increases the injury rate by 11% in an occupation-metro area labor market…” That’s what you read. Increased wages cause owners to push for more production and that creates unsafe working conditions. Artificially raising wages causes less safe working conditions. “Is that a finger in my burger?” Yummy!
MOSTLY TRUE
You could get the impression that I only complain about untruths. OK. I could get that impression, too. However, the fact is that articles which are well researched and written don’t need any comment. I learn much from those and sometimes that information gets passed along in a related post. A friend invited me to breakfast today and during that enjoyable time I thought of one item which I think is mostly true and which can help people.
Sleep helps memory. MANY studies have shown a correlation. My friend was saying he is distressed by not being able to remember things. His sleep schedule is wacky.

Why do I call this “mostly true?” Everyone is different and we age differently. When I was younger I could stay up until 2am, get up at 7:30am and be fine for the whole day. In mid-life I found that did not work nearly as well. Actually, what I noticed was that more drivers flashed their lights or honked their horns … yikes, I was making poor choices when switching lanes and pulling out onto streets. Thankfully I corrected the problem before causing an accident.
My friend, who is quite intelligent, is finding that he recently is having trouble remembering names. (I’ve never had a time when that wasn’t an issue. I often call my wife “Hey you.”)
So, mostly true that to improve brain function the best thing (far above the second best thing) you can do is get consistent sleep.

PANDEMIC FAKERY
“New virus discovered in Alabama raises pandemic fears
By CASSIDY MORRISON SENIOR HEALTH REPORTER FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

Every disease is now called a “potential pandemic.” I believe this is a foolish use of the word by mainstream press. For the last 50 years there have been several new or newly re-discovered illnesses found yearly. Only a few were epidemics and only 2 were pandemics. COVID was the most lethal of those two only because it was truly a pandemic (an epidemic which circled the globe).
Calling every pathogen a “potential pandemic” is acting out “the boy who cried wolf.” I believe they should STOP it already. None since COVID have turned out to be a wolf.

Variations of the COVID virus should not be called pandemics unless they actually cause a pandemic. Which they have not. After the initial scare of COVID, the first few variations were scary until we realized they WERE NOT causing a renewed pandemic. Yet every variation has been heralded by the press as something which should scare us enough that we should hide in our basements. They all turned out to be major duds. It turns out that most of us now have some resistance.
Can we go back to COVID to learn something? Yes? Most of those who died from it were the elderly (over 70). Followed by those who were morbidly obese. The third highest group were those with a comorbidity like cancer (or in some cases by lead poisoning from a .45). As with any disease there are outliers, so a relatively small number of healthy 22 year olds also died who were neither obese nor plagued by some other major disease. But let’s go back to the top…by far those at highest risk for hospitalization and death were the elderly. It was a selective virus. Turns out that 85% of Americans had very little to fear. My point with “who died” is that the press scared all of us, they WEREN’T selective or accurate. I got it and my wife got it. We survived without any help from the government, the press or the medical community. (The local hospital was actually recommending that people not come to the emergency room.)
Sorry, press, but I have gotten to the place where I no longer believe there’s a wolf. None of those with whom I talk regularly believes it either. Learn a lesson!
