It seems that most people these days see Advent as something having to do with daily doses of chocolate or other gifts that come embedded in a December calendar. I love chocolate as much as the next guy, but the purpose of these weeks before we celebrate the birth of Christ have a very special meaning to those of us who celebrate Him!
So what does “Advent” mean?
“Advent means ‘arrival’ and signifies the start of an event or the arrival of a person. In Christian communities around the world, Advent refers to a four-week season of remembering and celebrating the arrival of Jesus on Earth.” *
Then what is Advent to us?
“Advent is a four-week season in the Church calendar dedicated to anticipating the arrival, or ‘advent,’ of Jesus of Nazareth, the long-awaited Messiah and King.” *
How do I do Advent?
How I do Advent:
– Anticipate through Scripture readings, led through devotionals or calendars, such as the readings I am posting daily on this site.
– Concentrate through a heavy presence of Christmas music on the radio, TV, played on my keyboard, local church programs when possible
– Celebrate the hope that the coming Christ Child will bring to the world
