Today is National Unfriend Day, and I changed the original topic for this post because I needed to share something I was taught today. So this will be a different kind of Supernal Sunday I think.
The purpose of National Unfriend Day is to take time to remove people from our social media lives. As explained on THIS page at National Today, this date, was decided by Jimmy Kimmel as a “day of self-care to celebrate by simplifying our connections online and unfriending any and everyone who does not add joy to your online, social networking experience.” When I first read about it early this morning, I thought it sounded like a good idea.

And then the Spirit started working in me. I thought about people in my 35 years online who annoyed me, or who gave me grief in one way or another. I thought, with shame, the times I unfriended people because, “I don’t need this kind of grief!” and how proud that sounded…as if those people weren’t worth my time. Weren’t loved by a God who was tortured and died for them. Weren’t good enough for me…

I know that the Lord determines my path, and is involved in every detail of my life. Some of those details include the people He puts in my path, for His own reasons, according to His own plan. Who am I to say He is wrong? Who am I to suppose I know better than He what relationships I should sustain? Is that person teaching me something – or am I teaching them something? Am I the only gospel that person has ever seen (to coin a phrase)? Could one of us be the answer that God sent to a prayer the other prayed?

Then He brought to my mind the people who became dear friends to me that, at first, I might have dismissed. Unfriended online. And missed out on a true godly friendship, which is such a gift from my Father! And I found THIS post on the Deep Spirituality blog that rang so much more true to my own spirit! As I selected Bible verses for today’s gallery I didn’t find anything about getting rid of people who didn’t bring me joy. Joy comes from God, as we are obedient to Him…and it was only after that, that I completed the meme gallery for this day. It is totally NOT the nonsense that had first come to my mind.
Below are the verses that the Lord led me to share, in the end. Now I know better. And that is why the link from the National Unfriend Day will take you to the second article I linked above, and not the first.
What do YOU think of National Unfriend Day?
