I have mentioned in my chat about my idea of connecting this site with my Pinterest account somehow, someday. Then I looked into WordPress plugins* that I might use but nothing was exactly what I was looking for. So I decided just to pick and choose which of my pins from a certain topic to share here, and copy/paste the embed code that Pinterest provides. It was not at all difficult and, in fact, is easier than trying to figure out how to manage a new plugin!
*I have this site connected, partially, with Mastodon, in that a plugin automatically shares any of my posts here on that platform, unless I uncheck a box. I don’t always share everything. But that’s not what I was looking to do in this case.
I gave it a test run this week and am pleased by the results. Though I didn’t get any comments on it, my stats showed me that it not only got a good number of hits but that some of them were “repeat customers”! (And just so you know, I don’t – and wouldn’t – and can’t – track individuals.) So I think I’m on the right track, but will know as time goes on. If repeat visits continue and these posts continue to get a lot of hits, then I’ll keep posting them.
There are a couple of reasons I wanted to share with Pinterest. One is that I always want to add more content here that is interesting, useful, inspiring, entertaining, etc. And I’ve already accumulated a lot of that content in my collection of pins there; I’ve already done the legwork in adding things that the visitors here will enjoy (as evidenced, once again, by my stats).
Also, I am not on the big social media sites anymore such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and others. These have a load of material that would fit into the goals of this site but I don’t have access to it. Yes, I have access on other platforms of course, especially Mewe and Gab, but I still spend a ton of time out seeking new stuff to share with you. I’d like to spend more time sharing and less time seeking. That enables me to share more stuff!
Third, I’d like to give back to Pinterest. Now I realize that nobody there cares how many pins I have or how often I save items to my boards. But I do. I want to provide as well as use. So when I share certain content here I want to be able to put it up there as well, and also use the opportunity to give my sources more exposure. It’s the least I can do!
I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I’d appreciate more traffic here, even though I’m fully satisfied with the visitors – most of whom I consider friends I haven’t met yet – who already use my site! I’m not interested in profiting from my site or breaking records or advertising (except in sharing things I love), just think it would be nice to see it continue to grow its reach a bit.
Mostly it’s all about people. Providing things that people – you! – enjoy or can use. There are many things in my life that I am no longer able to do but this is a way I can be useful and stay connected with people who care about the same things I do. This site, and making something for YOU, is sometimes what gets me out of bed in the morning when it would be easier to just stay there. It is my goal to share stuff with you that will make your days a little better, and using my Pinterest account here is one more way that I can do that.
