I think you will have to bear with me on this one. David Meece wrote (early 70s, maybe?), and performed this, as a lullaby, referring to this tiny infant as a He was: a delicate baby.
When I hear it, however, I hear the delicate baby in the lyrics but in my mind I see the powerful and mighty Warrior that He ultimately is, to defeat sin and death, to rule, and to save.
And it is THAT vision that I hear when I play One Small Child. Forgive me, Mr. Meece.
[Verse 1]
One small child in a land of a thousand
One small dream of a Savior tonight
One small hand reaching out to the starlight
One small Savior of life, ooh
[Verse 2]
One king bringing his gold and riches
One King ruling an army of might
One king kneeling with incense and candlelight
One King bringing us life, ooh
[Verse 3]
See Him lying, a cradle beneath Him
See Him smiling in the stall
See His mother praising His Father
See His tiny eyelids fall
[Verse 4]
See the shepherds kneeling before Him
See the kings on bended knee
Oh, see the mother praising the Father
See the blessed infant sleep
[Verse 1]
One small child in a land of a thousand
One small dream of a Savior tonight
One small hand reaching out to the starlight
One small Savior of life, ooh
