USA Election 2020 Outcome

While the outcome of our election here in the USA remains a mystery and many are biting their nails to their elbows, we can know a few things in advance. As Christians and followers of Jesus in every aspect of our lives we have assurances that those who love the world can’t claim.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 1John 2:15-17

While this election is an important one, it is STILL part of God’s overall plan. In very simple terms, many believe that one outcome is to bring judgement and punishment to a nation that is in open rebellion to Him while the other is to reward a nation that faithful to Him. Others believe that, because God gives us the ruler we asked for (even in the voting booth), even one who practices evil, we as a country will “get what we deserve”. (Remember what happened back in Samuel’s day when the chosen demanded a king! For a refresher, those events begin in Samuel chapter 8.) Personally, I can’t know the mind of the Lord, but I DO know this:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.” Daniel 2:20-21

and from Romans 13:1 we know

…there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

and from Daniel 4:17 we know

“...to the end that the living may know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will...”

Any my 3rd point is quite possibly what is the greatest of His promises about the end game:

“For many…walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven…” from Philippians 3:18-20

We need to be doing God’s work while on this earth. Most Christians – nearly all Christians, even – have been spending our lives in ease and pleasure, seeking to make the most of our ever-growing leisure time. Living as those in verse 19 above, we sit with a TV remote or smartphone in our hand without a thought for Kingdom work, while people are perishing every second. When we could be out where the hurting people are, bringing them the Good News, we sit in our church buildings for an hour a week – if that – hoping maybe one might stumble in so our pastors can lead them down the “roman road” as we go to Ponderosa to gorge on our Sunday dinner.

As Christians called to work for Kingdom, should this be what we really WANT? And does God provide the leaders we want, or the ones we need – the ones that are part of His plan for the world, which is – as followers of Jesus – exactly what we also should desire. Could it be that HE is bringing us work to do for Him? Is He opening the floodgates of the hurting so that He can work through us in their lives? We know that the time is growing ever shorter until our opportunities are gone, and many more are lost…is this our last chance to take up our cross and follow Him in His work rather than our ease?

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” 2Cor. 9:6

In the end, the outcome – whatever it ends up being and whichever candidates you preferred – isn’t about you. It isn’t about me. It isn’t about us. It is about God’s plan, God’s purposes, and God’s established authority. We don’t have to like it, but we do have to desire it, as the the will of our Father. God does give us the desires of our hearts, when we desire His will. Which is, was, and always will be, according to His eternal plan.

    1. Did it really sound that harsh, Gwen? I was just typing as the words (Words?) were coming to me as fast as I could type; basically I just had to look up the verses as they were coming to me.

        1. Looking at the state of “Christianity” in America, especially by those who actually read our Bibles, explains how we got to the point doesn’t it.
